I recently went to a Matchbox 20 concert and was surprised
to see them cover "Jet" from McCartney's 1973 "Band On The Run"
album.
I was kind of surprised that the Matchbox 20 version was
a straight cover... no re-intepretation... sounded
almost like a Macca concert - except Rob Thomas' vocal
performance was less than desireable... and absolutely
no one in the audience threw their hand in the air
like at a Macca show.
One of the people in our group is about 10 years younger
than I and he was not (previously) familiar with the song.
The taste apparently whetted his appetite enough to
dig up the old Wings' album. He has since decided
that he likes the album.
As he was talking about the album - I remembered a photo
that is in Roy Carr and Tony Tyler's "Beatles Illustrated"
book from the mid-70s... this book was apparently
well received in its day - and I'm hoping the readers
in this group will remember what I'm talking about...
DOES ANYONE KNOW THE STORY BEHIND THAT STRANGE PHOTO
OF LINDA MCCARTNEY WITH NO SHIRT ON ????
That photo has always puzzled me. It appears
to be some sort of promotional photo or ad for
the "Jet" single.
I dug the book out again to prove to myself
and the neophyte McCartney fan who went to the
Matchbox 20 concert that the photo does exist.
In the book, it's a black and white photo. It's
round... almost appears to be a record label.
The image may be part photo, part painting... or
maybe even 100% painting... it's really tough
to tell from the black and white image in the book.
But even during the 70s, I thought it was kind
of bizarre to see Linda's boobs being used to
promote a record.
Was this legit ? Or was this some sort of strange
bootleg?
